Solution:

The man is playing a game of Monopoly. He is pushing his car token around the board and has landed on a hotel property that he cannot afford to pay for, which is why he knows he is bankrupt.

it used to be his hotel, and parked outside is what used to be his bentley before he lost it gambling.

sounds like a game indeed and would be rightly so... but let us say bankrupt means he found himself without money for his need as in reference to an actual man and an actual car... in this case he could have ran out of gas or had car toubles some distance away and having exit is car his wallet fell, now arriving at the hotel his thoughts of lodgment prompted him to examin his wallet which at this point could not be found. :shock: *im broke, can u spare some change?*

He was PUSHING HIS CAR AT GREAT SPEED after he had bet his life savings on the fact that he was heading into the desert. He was not expecting to find any signs of civilization for hours. When he saw the hotel he knew he had lost the bet.
