The cabin is a wooden A-frame with a very high ceiling and a leaky roof. The light bulb in the ceiling finally burned out. The men got the special very tall step ladder out and one of them climbed to the top to change the bulb.
When he got there, he found he could not turn the bulb because it was rusted into the fixture. The other two men therefore grabbed the bottoms of the ladder and tried to turn it with the man on it. This actually worked, but when the rust suddenly broke the wobbly ladder jerked and fell over.
The ladder crushed the two men at the bottom, and the man on top fell to his death.

Dehydration can kill you in thrree hours if the place is hot. It's either the cabin heater broke and the the temp is high and they could not turn-it-off because the gauge is outside the cabin, they were not able to get out because the door is jammed, so they knew they are going to die and they just did after 3 hours.

These three people were walking in the mountains when they were attacked by a bear. They run to the cabin that they can see and enter and lock it from the inside. The bear sits outside waiting. It starts snowing heavily and the bear cannot be seen. Maybe he was gone. They wait for three hours. The weight of the snow on the roof of the cabin becomes so much that the roof starts to collapse. They realize that they are going to die. The roof collapses and they die.
