Lateral Thinking Puzzles

9. PAINTING

A man pays a high price for a painting he knows full-well is completely worthless.

Why?

Submitted by ANTFROG2000 · Added 15 August 2008

Solution:

The man is paying for the painting as a cover for a money laundering operation, but he may also have a personal connection to the artwork, such as it being painted by a loved one, which adds emotional value to the transaction.

He wants the frame it is in, he really loves the painting, or he painted it

Money laundering. He owes money to the mob, and this is how he pays them. The mob painted the picture and the guy buys it in an auction to pay them back.

They do this in Mickey Blue Eyes.

The painter is the man's son, daughter, or girl friend.

He knows it's a part of the puzzle that he needs to complete or it could be painted by gold paint.
