A temple has 9 doors. At each door stands 1 priest.

Each priest has 9 wives, and each wife has 6 children.

Every child owns 9 baskets, and each basket contains 9 flowers.

How many flowers are there in total?

Hint:

Work step by step: doors → priests → wives → children → baskets → flowers. Multiply at each level.

Solution:

Number of priests = 9 doors × 1 priest/door = 9.
Number of wives = 9 priests × 9 wives/priest = 81.
Number of children = 81 wives × 6 children/wife = 486.
Number of baskets = 486 children × 9 baskets/child = 4,374.
Number of flowers = 4,374 baskets × 9 flowers/basket = 39,366.

Total flowers: 39,366.
