A man was trying to get to sleep, so he turned out the light and got to sleep. The next day he heard the news and a ship had crashed into some rocks. He shot himself. Why?

Hint:

Consider the man's occupation and the implications of the ship's crash.

Solution:

The man was a lighthouse keeper. He turned off the light, which caused the ship to crash into the rocks. Feeling responsible for the accident, he shot himself.
