72. How Does a Deaf Person Ask for Water?

A mute person who cannot speak might ask for a pair of scissors by miming the cutting action with his fingers.

Now consider a deaf person—someone who cannot hear but is perfectly able to speak—who wants a glass of water. Without resorting to formal sign language, how could he ask for it?

Hint:

Think about which sense is impaired and which abilities remain unaffected.

Solution:

The deaf person can simply say, “Water, please.” Deafness affects hearing, not the ability to speak.
