You have twice as many apples as oranges.

There is a total of 12 apples and oranges all together.

Let the number of oranges be x. Then the number of apples is 2x.

Solution:

Let the number of oranges be x. Then the number of apples is 2x. The equation is x + 2x = 12, which simplifies to 3x = 12. Therefore, x = 4. So, there are 4 oranges and 8 apples.

The apples and oranges question is misleading. It should read 'apples OR oranges', as does the answer.
